Session 1:  Starting a Development Program

 Wednesday, August 21st, 9 AM – Noon

 Facilitator:  Jenny Carrillo, MA, CFRE and Laura Alexander, MA

 This first course focuses on the information and skills needed to establish an integrated fundraising program.  During this session, participants will learn how to identify potential fundraising sources and how different types of fundraising fit into the bigger picture.  Additionally, this course will provide methods for assessing your institution’s readiness, defining your case, developing resources and establishing basic policies and procedures needed to manage a solid fundraising program.

 Session 2:  Annual Giving/Events

 Friday, August 30th, 9 AM – Noon

 Facilitator:  Pamela Doherty, CFRE

 This workshop is designed to help you discover core constituencies and turn them into continuous annual donors.  Knowing the range of techniques available will help you design a plan and develop strategies to move donors on the path of lifetime commitment to your organizations.  This course will also give you useful tools to prepare and execute special events and discuss what types of events would be beneficial to your organization.

 Session 3: Board Development

 Friday, September 6th, 9 AM – Noon

 Facilitator: Clyde W. Kunz, CFRE

 This workshop is designed to show you how to work with and energize volunteers to help your organization raise money efficiently and effectively.  Participants will learn how to recruit the best board as well as evaluate your current team.  You will also learn the difference between a fundraising board and a governing board, and which one would fit with your organization.

 Session 4:  Weaving Ethics into Your Fundraising

 Tuesday, September 10th, 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Facilitators:  Andrew Watt, FInstF, AFP President and CEO
                        Barbara Levy, ACFRE, AFP International Ethics Committee Chair
                        Roberto Soto-Acosta, AFP International Ethics Committee

 This workshop will review your role of ethics in fundraising and how to create a culture of ethics within your organization by speaking with donors and staff about ethics.  You will be given hypothetical case studies to answer key ethical issues and highlight the thinking that goes into ethical considerations.  You will also learn about the activities and procedures of the AFP Ethics Committee and how you can receive advice and guidance when an ethical matter arises.

  Session 5:  Major Gift Fundraising

 Thursday, September 19th, 9 AM – Noon

 Facilitator: Brian Bateman

 This dynamic and interactive session will focus on engaging donors at a deeper level so that their personal  giving grows as the relationship deepens.  You will explore the major tenets of successful major gift fundraising and leave prepared to engage your best prospects in new, creative and exciting ways.  You will receive a packet of materials that will guide you through the year about how to spend your time, who to spend your time with and what to do during that time.

 Session 6:  Corporate & Foundation Grant Writing/Seeking

 Friday, September 27th, 9 AM – Noon

 Facilitator: Debi Chess Mabie

 This workshop will help participants learn and articulate the differences between corporate & foundation funders and how to research and match their interests with your organization. You will learn how to write a proposal and what goes in it as well as understand the importance of building lasting relationships with funders.
